Center for Space Science and Radio Engineering (SSRE)
Communication technology with satellites and earth base stations and operation of their facilities.
Predecessor of this center was the Sugadaira Cosmic Radio Observatory, which is now an affiliated facility. The Sugadaira Radio Observatory was established in December 1968 as an on-campus research facility in Sugadaira, Sanada-cho, Koagata-gun, Nagano Prefecture (present-day Sugadaira Kogen, Ueda City). In April 2010, with the reorganization of the Faculty of Electrical Communication into the Faculty of Information Science and Technology, the observatory was reborn as the Space and Electromagnetic Research Center, an organization independent from the Faculty. Electromagnetic Environment Research Center, an independent organization from the Faculty.
Our research targets the Earth's interior from the subsurface to the atmosphere, ionosphere, and deep space, and we are constantly working to understand various unknown physical phenomena.
We are developing new technologies that support people's daily lives, such as satellite communication engineering and environmental electromagnetic engineering. Specifically, we conduct electromagnetic environment analysis, simulation of electromagnetic wave propagation, and antenna and filter design based on electromagnetic field theory
【Observation Tower】 The observatory has two 3.6m diameter parabolic antennas and one 4-element cross yagi antenna
【Seminor Tower】 This is an accommodation facility attached to the observatory. It is also available for use by non-Center staff. Many laboratories at the University of Electro-Communications use this facility for their summer camps.
It is known for its very pleasant climate as a summer resort in summer and as a ski and snowboard resort in winter, and nature can be enjoyed throughout the year. The University of Electro-Communications Sugadaira Cosmic Radio Observatory was established in a very suitable location for conducting radio wave observations.
